Showreel Contents
Rewilding Knepp Estate (30 secs. Adobe Animate). A bird flies away from a smoggy industrial area to a pretty re-wilded landscape where there are other wildlife creatures.
Development Notes: At first I had some technical issues with the flying animation of the bird which you can see below. I moved the centre point of the wing to the joint where it connects to the body, and then it worked perfectly.
Below: Showing the process of animating the deer in Adobe Animate.
OTHER WORLDS - A human, Nova, crash lands on a different planet and interacts with the frog character Squirt (30 secs - Adobe Animate). This was my first fully animated story. Once animated, I noticed problems with crossing the line which I didn't notice in the storyboard and animatic (although I had noticed other problems in the animatic that I corrected). I'm not happy with Nova's head turn as it's not smooth, and I feel that both the characters are too stiff. I would have liked to have redone this. However, I enjoyed adding the music and foley to make the piece come alive.
A person who suffers with Seasonal Affective Disorder in the summer (10 secs - Adobe Animate). This was to show the effects of SAD. I experimented with a different character style influenced by illustrators Agata Nowicka, Gustavo Magalhaes, Johanne Licard and Laurac Lhuillier. This is my more recent work where I feel my animation appears smoother. I would have liked to have included a close up of the woman's eyes tearing up and would have placed one of he clouds a little higher in the background. I also would have liked to have shown her body becoming more relaxed when she becomes happier as the day becomes colder. Currently she'd too stiff and doesn't move.
A person who struggles to sleep at night due to extended period online (10 secs - After Effects). Again I experimented with a very simplistic art style inspired by Kurzgesagt (a YouTube Animation channel) as well as artists Edward McGowan and Uran Duo.
Test animation of a fox's fur blowing in the wind (5 secs - Photoshop and Adobe Animate). I watched an online tutorial on how to do this before I did my own animation with a fox.
A pumpkin monster chopping a wooden stump with an axe (animated on paper.)
Rotoscope animation of a person swinging a wooden stick (Adobe Animate).
A short flip note animation of my pumpkin (Paper).
An animated poster for the project Other Worlds (Adobe Animate).
A human turning into a slime monster to practice transformation animation (10 secs -ToonBoom): I experimented with a different software program that I discovered at a university taster day. I found it difficult at first to get the animation to look fluid, but soon realised that the problem was because of how I had drawn the character. As soon as I made adjustments, it came out how I wanted.
(I added foley using Premiere Pro)
